Otitis media, an infection of the middle ear, affects millions of infants and young children each year. In fact, the National Institutes of Health estimate that 75 percent of children will have at least one bout of ear infection or inflammation before turning three, and that nearly half of those children will experience three or more otitis media episodes before their third birthdays. Otitis media can also affect older children and adults.

To address the need for an effective alternative to current oral medications for pediatric patients, Piedmont Pharmaceuticals is developing Medamor, an innovative topical delivery mechanism for antibiotics used to treat otitis media. We have begun initial preclinical research and plan to out-license this promising technology.
