Solitude™ IGR
Solitude™ IGR feed-through fly control is a simple, effective way to virtually eliminate the barn flies common to horse stables. Developed by Piedmont Pharmaceuticals and licensed to Pfizer Animal Health in 2005, Solitude contains cyromazine, an insect growth regulator that attacks the nervous system of certain larvae, including house and stable flies, and eradicates flies before they hatch.
Delivered through alfalfa-based Solitude pellets, the active ingredient passes intact through horses’ digestive systems and remains in the manure where flies would normally breed. While a single horse’s manure can yield over 27,000 immature flies per day, studies show that manure of horses treated with Solitude exhibits a 95 to 100 percent reduction in barn fly emergence.
Time-tested, safe and effective, cyromazine has been used by the poultry industry for more than two decades to control flies in chicken manure. Piedmont Pharmaceuticals experts developed a new application for the compound, thereby solving a pesky and frustrating problem for horses and their owners.
